This activity aims to raise awareness about the functioning of the human body\, with a special emphasis on the sources of electrical current within it. A 3D model of the human body composed of various presentation levels\, including skin\, muscles\, nerves\, internal organs\, and the skeleton will be used. Each of these presentation levels can be adjusted for transparency\, allowing for an interactive exploration of the human body through headsets or augmented reality glasses.

DESCRIPTION:Selected authors participating in this year’s competition of the Youth for Progress Maribor programme will present their research papers and innovation proposals. Since the school year 1983/84\, the “Youth for the Progress of Maribor” programme has been encouraging research work by young people. Initially organised by the Municipality of Maribor\, since 2007 it has been run under the auspices of ZPM Maribor. Each year\, more than 300 young researchers from the upper grades of Maribor’s primary schools\, secondary schools and student hostels participate in the programme. In total\, they submit around 200 research papers and innovative proposals in more than 30 research fields.

Large language models can qualitatively summarise the patient’s condition and advise the physician on his or her treatment. Personal medicine is being developed\, in which the treatment is clearly adapted to the individual according to his or her genetics and lifestyle.\nDespite great prospects\, there are quite a few challenges and ethical reservations which will need to be overcome before intelligent robots enter clinical practice.

DESCRIPTION:The event will highlight the importance of critical thinking\, identifying misinformation and building trust in scientific sources. The roundtable\, moderated by Renata Dacinger\, a journalist from RTV SLO\, will be moderated by experts from various institutions: prof. dr. Dean Korošak\, Vice-Rector for Scientific Research at the University of Maribor and head of the oooZnanost! project\, Ms. Miriam Možgan\, Foreign Policy Advisor to the President of the Republic of Slovenia\, Dr. Aida Kamišalić Latifić\, State Secretary of the Ministry of Digital Transformation\, Prof. Dr. Štefko Miklavič\, Vice-Rector for Scientific Research and Development at the University of Primorska\, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sašo Jerše\, Vice-Dean for Doctoral Studies and Scientific Research at the Faculty of Arts of the University of Ljubljana and project leader of the Humanities\, It’s You!\, and Dr. Nejc Plohl\, Assistant Professor at the Department of Psychology\, Faculty of Arts\, University of Maribor. \nThe debate will address the understanding of fake news\, the psychology of conspiracy theories\, the impact of digital media and the role of educational institutions and the state in the fight against disinformation. The programme will also include a presentation of the European Researchers’ Night 2024\, which will take place in 23 countries and more than 400 cities across Europe and beyond.

SUMMARY:Ethics and Pitfalls in Science Communication (lecture for students)
DESCRIPTION:The World Wide Web offers easy access to information but also presents pitfalls. We will present unethical practices in electronic publishing\, such as predatory journals\, plagiarism\, predatory metrics\, and deceptive conferences. We will answer questions about how to recognise these practices and why it is not advisable to engage with them or use their resources. We will emphasise the importance of ethical behaviour in scientific communication and its impact on trust in science and the lack of critical thinking.
