DESCRIPTION:Artificial intelligence technologies demonstrate outstanding potential in all areas\, including in medicine. In recent years\, there have been breakthroughs in the fields of diagnosis\, interpretation of diagnostic images as well as patient monitoring and control. Large language models can qualitatively summarise the patient’s condition and advise the physician on his or her treatment. Personal medicine is being developed\, in which the treatment is clearly adapted to the individual according to his or her genetics and lifestyle.\nDespite great prospects\, there are quite a few challenges and ethical reservations which will need to be overcome before intelligent robots enter clinical practice.

DESCRIPTION:In this workshop we will use games and examples to introduce statistical concepts to children. Participants will learn the fundamentals of statistics and acquire basic skills for data analysis through play. The workshop is designed for children from grade 1 to grade 3 that will encounter the data cycle: they will define a research question\, and based on this question they will collect data\, describe them\, analyze them and interpret the results. The aim of the workshop is to stimulate the curiosity of children about the world around them through data exploration and discovery in a fun and interactive way.

SUMMARY:Presentation of the best selected research and innovation proposals of the Youth for Progress Maribor Programme
DESCRIPTION:Selected authors participating in this year’s competition of the Youth for Progress Maribor programme will present their research papers and innovation proposals. Since the school year 1983/84\, the “Youth for the Progress of Maribor” programme has been encouraging research work by young people. Initially organised by the Municipality of Maribor\, since 2007 it has been run under the auspices of ZPM Maribor. Each year\, more than 300 young researchers from the upper grades of Maribor’s primary schools\, secondary schools and student hostels participate in the programme. In total\, they submit around 200 research papers and innovative proposals in more than 30 research fields.

DESCRIPTION:As part of the “HybridNeuro” project\, we are developing hybrid neuroscience that combines cortical and muscular information for motor rehabilitation and the assessment of neuromuscular disorders. This activity aims to raise awareness about the functioning of the human body\, with a special emphasis on the sources of electrical current within it. A 3D model of the human body composed of various presentation levels\, including skin\, muscles\, nerves\, internal organs\, and the skeleton will be used. Each of these presentation levels can be adjusted for transparency\, allowing for an interactive exploration of the human body through headsets or augmented reality glasses.

SUMMARY:Critical Understanding of Media Content - Workshop for Senior Citizens
DESCRIPTION:The critical media analysis workshop will offer participants knowledge for conceptual understanding media content\, especially news. We will use the news analysis Kellner and Share model (2019). Its goal is to identify points of view\, genres\, and patterns of media representation and detect propaganda\, censorship\, and bias in the news. A group of senior citizens show low media literacy\, regularly follow traditional media\, and are not proficient in using computers and mobile digital devices; they are also a potentially vulnerable group exposed to online abuse. The workshop will show how much they are exposed to fake news\, even if they have a partially developed critical attitude towards information and other media content. \n[The event will be held by appointment. SUMMARY:Fake News and Conspiracy Theories: How to Combat them and Protect Gender Equality?
DESCRIPTION:“Raising awareness of the interested public through presentations on fake news and conspiracy theories in the field of gender equality: Despite technological and social progress\, even in the field of gender equality\, fake news and conspiracy theories exist. Based on their characteristics\, fake news can be classified into several subgroups\, such as: false information\, which refers to inaccurate information or manipulated truth with the aim of creating sensational stories; bias\, which refers to the fact that people will prefer to share and believe fake news that is consistent with their beliefs and biases; the spread of false information through the platform\, with the help of which the information spreads faster; manipulation through which the creators of false information only want to spread it for various reasons such as political goals\, financial gain or entertainment. \nAs a well-known example\, we can take the difference in pay for the same work between men and women\, many still deny this fact and do not attach any special importance to it. In the field of science\, there is often misinformation or stereotypes about what men and women can do\, or what abilities one group and another have. Stereotypical claims are also often seen in the fields of technology\, mechanical engineering\, computer engineering and mathematics. Some misinformation often tries to relativize and minimize the magnitude of the problem of violence against women or falsely state that most allegations are false\, even though research indicates that the proportion of false allegations in cases of sexual violence is relatively low. \nWe can still find news stories and messages from celebrities stating that feminism is part of a global conspiracy to devalue traditional values and the family and place men in a subordinate position. We also witness in many cases when they use conspiracy theories to try to convince others that feminism is hostile to men and promotes the dominance of one gender over the other. That is why it is important to recognize fake news and conspiracy theories and to be able to check the source of the information\, or to find out where the information is coming from and if we have found it within a credible source that supports or refutes the stated facts. \nVarious research projects dealing with gender equality can play an important role in raising awareness. We would especially like to present the AGRIGEP project within Horizon Europe. The aim is to make the general public aware of the importance and benefits that research in the field of gender equality brings” \n[The exact date will be known later.]
