Living in a long-living society urges modern societies to rethink the importance and position of the elderly. It is important that the elderly stay as active as possible, whereby it is particularly important to stress the need to protect their dignity, rights and feeling that they are an important part of society. This is why care for the elderly should not merely strive to prolong life but above all to improve the quality of old age. Ensuring safety and sense of security is a prerequisite for all other activities of the young and the elderly alike. In order to ensure quality ageing, we need to direct more activities to the prevention of a vast and above all well-hidden problem - violence against the elderly. We prepared a lecture for the elderly based on research findings and practical experience with the prevention of violence among the elderly. Workshop participants will learn about different forms of violence the elderly have to face at home as well as in homes for the elderly. Furthermore, we will learn how effectively protect ourselves against such behaviour.
